well it would be interference getting into your sound card which gives you a whine coming through the speakers... I noticed a lot of it from my video card while using the on-board (detachable) sound from my mo-bo which was sandwiched between the video card and CPU... I got an X-Fi covered with ERS paper which now sits below the video card... so no more interference from teither... thoguh now I have to worry about the PSU messing with it...

just a though since nobody mentioned it... (that I read , I am a bit lazy today sorry)

CPU makes no noise whatsoever... the fan on the heatsink might be the culprit... pay attention to hairs which get stuck on fans which can make an annoying noise till they get torn away... hahaha girlfriend's hair is annoying

EDIT:
just a note... the GTS gave me a lot more interference than anything else, I knew this cause when I panned on Call of Duty it would whine... it was much like playing an instrument... pan: noise...
this is more noticeable also if you have good speakers... on my MDR-7506 headphones I could hear it super clear...
