Sound blaster live or integrated?

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,

I have a creative sound blast live the Dell OEM model. Would this card be an improvement over my integrated? The integrSated card is the one on the board in my sig, it is an Asus Supreme FX
I would be using this card with either some pretty nice Sony headphones or a pair of cheapo dell speakers

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

I like the sound blaster live, but do you know what kind of audio chipset you mobo uses?

You should try both of them out and see which one you like better.

"Analog Devices SoundMAX ADI1988B 8-channel HD Audio CODEC"

is what my onboard has, here is exactly what it lists:

"-ASUS Supreme FX Audio Riser Card
-Analog Devices SoundMAX ADI1988B 8-channel HD Audio CODEC
-DTS Connect
-Coaxial, Optical S/PDIF out on back I/O port
"

Sorry, I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to audio stuff.

Definitely use the Live! card over the onboard; I've been using my Live! 5.1 card for about 8 years now and always disable onboard sound.

Way more stable; way better sound quality; and some games can benefit from the EAX capabilities ...

I was considering it for that reason, but the wikipedia article (the one I linked to) says that the Dell OEM model has no EAX acceleration along with a few other things disabled.

That's weird. I've never heard that. I'm pretty sure most integrated cards support up to EAX2. But I hated my onboard audio with a passion.

For the same price the Audigy SE is way better since it support 7.1 and have software support Advanced EAX HD 4.0 and the Live! don't. The Audigy is compatible for gaming since it can support games like BF2, BF2142, FEAR, Far Cry, UT 2004, etc. I heard Live! have a lot of problem with BF2.

Read the post before making yourself look like an idiot. He already has the card and is wondering if it's better then his onboard, of which it is (EAX support FTW ).
