I've also tried with it parrallel to the ground... didnt make any difference. Anyway this could make a difference?
You can install it all four ways, it's all the same. If you got the heatsink installed properly then I'd say it's just a malfunctioning sensor.

Yea... that's kinda what I've thought. Is that something that Intel will RMA? How much high than the Motherboard's CPU sensor's temperature do your cores usually run?

Generally around 1 or 2C.

something iffy there. i have an S3 motherboard with F8 bios using the intel stock cooler with a dodgy top right pin (doesnt clip solidly like the other 3) and i've never seen temps over 57C loaded using TAT

*DO NOT* blindly trust gigabyte easytune or the bios for the temps. on my board it is always reports the CPU temps about 20C lower than they actually are.

Technik:

Even if the actual core temps are 20C higher than what EasyTune/Bios say, that's still lower than the reading I get. Also, the temperatures you get out of TAT are different when when you run a 100% load than when idling, right?

So I just powered up the new machine, and I noticed this:

Today's ambient temp is almost 10C lower than usual (Brrrr). And, consequently, the motherboard and video card temp reading are much lower than on previous days (Motherboard Case Temp: 43C, Motherboard CPU Temp: 28C, GPU Diode: 54C, GPU Ambient 44C). TAT, Everest, and CoreTemp all still show the cores at 72/72C.

Eh?
