what is the deal with this motherboard, is it just for people who are too scared to commit to anything?

Those are known as transition boards, gives you the ability to use legacy hardware which infact is still good, with newer technology. Downside is you are bottle necked by the supporting legacy hardware, for example the 16xPCI-e operating at only 4x, and the max fsb is 333. I know b/c i have one

it's good for people who don't OC and still have good AGP or DDR memory, and don't want to make the jump yet.

ya it's kind of strange, people who are building from the ground up woudn't buy this board...but i have a 6800GS AGP (fully unlocked oc to an Ultra) and had 2GB of ddr memory. So jumping on the Conroe wagon close to release week with this board, and allowing me to use my old hardware (which still gets me 112fps on max in css @ 1440x900) was ideal in saving a bit of kwon.

Now that i picked up a 8800gts i had no choice but to pick up a better board.
