Updating Old Build

Thread Starter
Hey guys, My brother has a 2400+ AMD with 1.3 gigs of RAM with a 6800GT. He is getting very good with Video Editing and I want to build him good computer that can handle heavy duty video editing plus some gaming on the side, i put together this build.

The important part is getting a motherboard that has 775 intel support plus AGP support. Cooling is important and keeping the old video card to help cost is nice. Let me know what you guys think. Thank you.

1. Nah, not worth keeping that card. id say ditch the GT. for that rig, your motherboard will limit your overclock severely, you may not be able to tweak the ram, voltages and fsb as easily as with a good mobo. May I suggest you get the E6550 (save 100$) and buy an X1950XT for 149$ after MIR and sell the 6800GT. you should be able to get at least 70-80$ if you sell it on local classifieds and you break even. either way, If you are a gamer, you will notice A LOT MORE of an increase with this setup than with a 6800gt and a quad core. CPUS dont contribute much to the performance in gaming (obviously if you have to choose between mad CPU mad GPU) As for the motherboard, the P5NE-SLI at 87$ Oem is a great choice for features AND overclocking.

2. and please, get THIS memory insteasd. you're looking at DDR2533 FOR 92$ when you can get Patriot extreme performance DDR2-800 for 72$ after MIR!!!

3. spend an extra 10$ and get this HIPER TYPE R 480W psu, much better quality. MUCH

And who knows, maybe you can get

example: Athlon X2 3600 + 8800gts will mop the floor with an E6600 + 7600GT in ANY GAME. (well, maybe not solitaire.. yeah .. definetly not solitaire....)
