EDIT: NM, but could be useful for someone else

is he running vista?
If he is, the task manager won't show all processes.
When you are in the processes tab, click on "Show all processes" -> accept
then the task manager will pop back up showing all the processes

The system is using DPC's (Deferred Procedure Calls) which might mean a hardware conflict. What are his computer specs. Does he have a 6800GS by chance?

The CPU is at 100%? What process is taking 100% in the task manager?

lol duh if you remove a cpu it'll never 100% by itself
