100% problem - Page 5

Np man, hope he gets it fixed.

Tomorrow if he has time, just for the heck of it, swap out and use different memoy, maybe run memtest86+ and see if any errors show up. I would also do a full drive read scan on the HD to see if any sectors are bad. It's worth a try

It could be a faulty install. Try taking out the card and using onboard and if that puts his cpu on a leash.

I always thought that the numbers in the CPU column was the % of CPU the process is using, on that screeny if you add them all up it comes to 78%, i am a complete noob or am i right?

mine always adds up to the number shows in the graph in task manager.

Also, does he have the AMD and Microsoft dual core patches?

Correct me if I'm wrong...
Isn't there a driver issue with the 8600 that nVidia has yet to fix? Memory leak or something that may be relative to this...
Come on Vid Card Gurus... whats up?

I don't know why i did not think of this before...i have seen this MANY times before (i repair computers at school)
There will be 100% cpu usage, but no program is taking it.

Right click on my computer -> manage -> device manager ->
select IDE ATA controllers -> right click on primary IDE and select properties ->
advanced tab ->

There should be a drop down box that says "DMA if available" and "PIO mode", make sure "DMA if available" is selected, then right below that it will tell you what mode you are in. If it says PIO mode then go back to the device mangager and uninstall the Primary IDE channel -> restart.

Do stuff that you normally do then go back and check it. If it says that it is in PIO mode again, that means that your HD is going bad and you should replace it ASAP before it fails

If it was in DMA mode the whole time, then don't worry about this at all...it isn't the issue.

FYI: PIO mode takes extra cpu to make sure that it is writing data to the HD correctly. It will go into this mode if it finds the HD isn't working properly.

yep tryed that, it was already in DMA mode, is there anything else that could be causing it,

do you think maybe the 8600gt isnt compatible with my motherboard or i need a new cpu?
