ASUS P5KC,GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3,or ASUS P5B

Thread Starter
the p5kc is nice but i would like to slide by with the ds3 or the p5b boards if i could which is better out of the 2 and can i use my xms2 ddr775 ram on the ds3 and p5b boards because i read this in both there specs " Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets." and thats why i choose the p5kc incase i cant use my ram with those boards.

The DS3 is probably the best Bang-For-Your-Buck board out of those three, IMHO!

If you're talking the DS3 with a P35 chipset? Maybe the DS3 then but ASUS boards are better IMO. Never personally owned a GIGABYTE but I've played with one and it was a great board.

Except I'd never buy a GIGABYTE as long as they keep putting those colors in their boards, they blind me.

I'd say the P5KC or DS3, both with a P35 chispet will be just fine. No P5B though, those have a P965 chipset, which are great but the P35 is slightly better in terms of overclocking.

Keep in mind the P5KC has an ICH9, and the ONLY RAID that can be had is by using the eSATA port using the JMicron controller...RAID cannot be done using the internal SATA ports.

The Jedec specs are really a disclaimer.. your RAM will work with anyof those boards. I concur with Nasgul, the P35 chipset is the board that you want, and the Gigabyte board is an excellent P35. Soon X38 will be released , and it's probably gonna be even better.
