Hi all, just wondering if it is bad to overclock my gpu just when I game and then to downclock. Seeing I work so much I don't have time to game as much as I like. Thanks

Why downclock?

Just overclock the 3D settings so that when you go in game it automatically uses the OC settings

Then leave the 2D settings at stock so it goes back down to stock settings when you are just browsing the web and such.

But no, it won't damage the card at all

I am not sure but I think vista uses 3d all the time, I do plan to leave it overclocked but was just wondering if it would hurt the card going back and forth.

No it won't the hurt the card at all. In fact it will help the card because it will have a break from continually being OC'ed

The reason i can confirm this is as i stated above. Atleast in XP anyways, you only OC the 3D settings, then when it goes back to desktop it downclocks back to stock for 2D settings. This is essentially what you are going to do, but you are doing it manually. So no, it will be fine

And i think you are right about 3D settings in Vista, mine seem to be on 24/7

So if that is the case, why don't you create 2 OC profiles? Activate the OC'ed one when you want to game, then activate the other profile (downclock it or put it at stock) when you are not gaming

Better than entering your core/mem every time you wana start/stop playing games.
