messed up wires when sleeving

Hi,

I was sleeving a few fans and some UV cathodes, and to do that I depinned the wires from the 3 pin female power connectors, then I realised I forgot to mark down what wire connects to where.

On one fan it has three wires, red yellow and black, for the cold cathodes it has two wires which are both white.

What's the worst that can happen if I just take a guess? Will it just not work if I do it wrong or is it going to destroy my PC?

Hi.

From the backside of the 3-pin connector (the side that has the clips that secure the pins) the order is from Left to right:

As far as the cold cathode is concerned, I don't think that there is a difference. I have taken a couple apart and re-assembled them.... maybe I was lucky.

I'm thinking the cold cathode is ground and 12v, so if you reversed it you would be supplying 12v straight to ground, in other words it would just be wasted

wouldn't do any damage if this was true, just no light.
