Go for the 6000+ and if you dont like it AMD is coming out with Phenom in a couple of month (I hope)and you can get one of those,they will own a E anything for sure (they had better if there charging the price they say they are).

If I had that much cash, I'd be getting a Quad Core.

As I see it there are two viable options:

1)Instead of the the x2 6000 why not pick up an x2 5200(2.6ghz) or x2 5600(2.8ghz) they both have 2x1mb cache and will OC to 3.0 ghz so possibly a cheaper solution for the exact same performance.

2)Wait until the price drops on the q6600s take effect, that way you can pick up a quad for the same price as a dual core now.

Either way up to you. Can you link the Aussie web site you will be making your purchases from?

GL with whichever path you take...

It is looking like the better option.

If budget is your focus for this build, you can't beat AMD atm. Even with Intel's existing and upcoming price cuts, AMD are still offering excellent value. Personally, it's Core2 all the way for me and I wouldn't consider anything else atm, but for a budget build, you can't beat AMD currently .

Highly-Annoyed

AMD Value chips rock, but i don't think the 6000 is a "value chip" tbh!

Cool...

Intel suggested build revised:

1) cpu -> C2D e6550 $235

2) mobo-> gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R $199

Total = $434 AUD

Power consumption is beastly with the 6000+, and e6550 will OC to 3ghz and yield superior clock for clock performance and lower power consumption.

The x2 6000+ is still a good option, but is that the only AMD chip @ that site?
