Upgrades Soon...

Thread Starter
Hey guys, i'm planning a little upgrade sometime soon, this will include -

Intel C2Q Q6600
EVGA nForce 680i or Asus Commando
Crucial Ballistix 2GB Kit (2x1GB)

Can anyone help with a Motherboard decision or any other recommendations? (i'm sticking with the Q6600 though ) I want to try to keep the upgrade under £420.

Thanks.

I honestly think you should go for the 680i, as it is one of the top spec boards atm.

Motherboard :GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R

A great overclocker, supports 45mn intel processors, supports DDR3 RAM as well as DDR2 and is just an amazing board! Around £90 most places I think.

If you don't want DDR3 just get the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R, same motherboard as the other one but just DDR2. Still an incredible board though!

Don't think I'll be going SLi and i think I'll leave DDR3 until it becomes cheaper.

I may be overclocking the CPU a little, nothing extreme though, if that helps.

Ok guys, sorry to double post, but I'm struggling on a decision between these boards-

eVGA nForce 680i
Asus Commando
Gigabyte GA P35-DS3R

I would like to try and future proof as much as possible out of these 3, not too fussed about SLI as i more than likelly won't be doing it, but i also want a good stable board, may do some overclocking.

I'll be using a Q6600, 8800GTS 640MB and Corsair TwinX XMS2 2GB (2x1GB) or Crucial Ballistix (2x1GB) with the board.

Well, you might say that you don't want SLI, but in 1 year when 8800GTS's are $250, you will want it, plus it is always best to say "just in case" when buying new equipment, you don't want to start limiting your options for upgrades right off the bat.

You could go for the P5N32-E SLI, it has the 680i chipset, DDR2, and has an excellent sound card, better then integrated, but not as good as a true sound card.

Of course, it supports 45nm CPU's (just about all 680i boards do I think) true SLI 16x + 16x (though you might now be too interested in this) and is a very good overclocker (you say your not too interested in this, but you will be, I guarantee it.)

Thanks for that, that's took the Commandos place.

I agree with you on the SLI comment, maybe i will buy another GTS when they drop sometime

[EDIT]- Actually, i think i might choose the board you suggested, thanks man. + Rep
