Evga 680i sli w/ 6420 Attemping to OC

Thread Starter
Been working on this for over a month, and coming to my wit's end. Been reading for along time, and havent seen this set up yet, so i figured I would ask.

I have egva 680sli, with the Intell 6420, with 3 PCI e 8800 GTS Video cards, 8 gig DDR2 800 mhz ram, and a 500 gig Sata HD. Duel Boot XP SP2 and "cringes" Vista. 850w power supply. 6, 22inch LCD monitors

Im tring to OC this the highest I can, with the Scythe Cooler, and 4 120MM fans, and 1 200MM fan.

http://www.antec.com/us/productDetails.php?ProdID=15900

I an get to 3.0ghz easy, but when i bump the FSB to 1600 It randomly restarts itself. I did the recent Bios update, and now when I run orthos it fails at 3.2 ghz withen 30 mins.

What would be the idea Voltages, and configurations I can attempt with this set up? how high can i OC this and still be stable?

Any help would be apreciated.

400FSB (1600GDR) is really unstable since its the last freq. before a new "strap" kicks in. its like emory timings for ytour NB. going to 401 could solve this problem, so i recommend trying that first, and then report back here.

If you have not read it already, you may find the Nvidia nForce 680i Overclocking Guide helpful.

Well running Ortho's now... With the the FSB at 1604 Im at 30 mins... Temps are CPU 46c, system 37c, GPU's at 1) 50c 2)60c 3) 49c... thats with Nmonitor. tho getting higher temps from speedfan. Cpu 51c, core 1 53c, core 2 53c. But I have passed the 30 min mark.

clocking at 3208 atm, FSB 1604, Memory 748.533

Voltages atm are Cpu 1.45, mem 2.1, FSB 1.5, HT 1.45, PCI e 1.45, Nforce 1.65, aux 1.7.

Thanks for the advice. Hope this test lasts all day... or I can get some more "tweak" advice.

something is fishy with your setup man, i'm running the evga 680i (e6320) on 1700fsb and have plenty of room to play with. i can push it past 1800fsb with some serious voltage.

you may want to look at your ram speeds/voltages as the culprit. as when i was cranking up my ram to 950+ it was restarting after post. i turned it down to 850 for everyday use. 950MHz was just overheating the ram and i couldn't tell any real world difference.

Whoa, never knew that...haha and I even have the board.(although only for about two weeks, but still) Must get 2 more GTXs!

Edit: Is it even worth the 3rd graphics card? I mean...All it does is physics calculations.
