How do you know they're unstable?

If you put both in and they're not running dual channels, you may need to set them side by side, or by colors.

RAM - NO RAM - RAM - NO RAM
or
RAM - RAM - NO RAM - NO RAM

I've never used memtest before, but I was wondering if the two 256MB RAM are the same RAM? This question may help other users help you.

Make sure you have the correct voltage and timings set. SPD data can be programmed incorrectly, so set the main timings manually (according to the sticker on the heatspreader)
If not, then RMA because if they are failing in Memtest86 then they are WAY unstable. Memtest is a crappy testing utility, as I passed 8 hours with my old modules, but failed instantly in HCI Memtest and Orthos. I never used it after that.

Make sure they're actually in Dual Channel (It'll show in the POST) and as stated before, make sure they're the same make/model.

Basically you cant put one stick of Kingston in with a stick of G.Skill and have it work.

Eh TwinMos sucks and so do Celerons...although that shouldn't cause instability unless theres something wrong with the RAM. I would say RMA it

I second that, RMA the ram. Before you do that though, give it a little more voltage (smallest increment possible)
However I doubt that will fix it.

I hardly think that saying his system's components 'suck' will help out in any way.....try to be a bit more polite
