compare 2 cpu intel vs amd - Page 2

Check this CPU chart.

Only a few split seconds behind the athlon 3000, but if you ARE a gamer, overclocking the 520j to near 4GHz should be easy, whereas the 3000 may not overclock as well, and the P4 will overtake it.

but like i said, most likely the intel board will be an ecs. so hitting 4ghz is very unlikely

Well P4s were the easiest thing I ever OCed so don't worry too much about the board. Just tell us the total budget. I'm sure we can find some better values for the money

if he gets intel, he needs ram+mobo+heatsink
he has a total of 4 sticks of ddr totaling 1gig, he has no ddr2, so he would have to get ram.
60 dollars is probably aready a stretch for him. like i said he has no job, and limited money

Fanboyism aside, the Pentium 4 route would prove to be much more worthwhile as you'll be able to slap a cheap E2160 into it at a later date. AMD's pga754 is dead and there were never any dual core's released for it. If he's stretching it at $60, then he'd be best off going for a cheap AsRock board for now and reuseing a couple of his DDR DIMM's.

he has a pci 5500, hes planning on upgrading it too, thus the very limited budget

i just got off the phone with him, he said he just got a job. he said hes gonna save up and spend about 7-900 on it. i can build that . he uses intel, but he was going to get a very budget build thats better than his 478.

i can handle the more money build from that , thanks guys
