I need some help deciding if this build would be sufficient for my needs.
I'm simply using it to game.
As well as for school.
But my gaming, I want it to do well in.
I'm not gonna game too much, not too little.

Games would include:BF2, BF2142, F.E.A.R., A few others like these.(NOT OBLIVION)

Here are the specs of what I want to buy.

Please tell me if anything would be incompatible, or if anything would result in low framerates for games at the highest setting on 1440x990.

EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS Superclocked / 320MB GDDR3 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card (2.65 lbs)

Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 2048MB PC4200 DDR2 Memory (2 x 1024MB) (0.1 lbs)

Lite-On Super-Multi LH20A1H Lightscribe DVD Burner - 20x DVD±R Burn, 16x DVD±R Read, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL, 12x DVD-RAM, Internal, Black-Beige (2.3 lbs)

Acer AL1917WABD 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 5ms, 700:1, WSXGA+ 1440x900, DVI, VGA, Black, 300 cd/m² (14 lbs)

Seagate / Barracuda 7200.10 / 250GB / 7200 / 8MB / NCQ / Serial ATA-300 / OEM / Hard Drive (1.5 lbs)

Gigabyte M61VME-S2 NVIDIA Socket AM2 MicroATX Motherboard and an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ 2.0GHz Processor with Fan (Retail) (3.3 lbs)

^^^^Changed to:

BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 550 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
+
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ Brisbane 1.9GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor - Retail

Please tell me if this system would bottleneck or anything.

That's a pretty good setup.... except maybe the RAM. I'd go with something a little better, like 2GB of G.Skill NQ DDR2800 (PC2-6400).

And you probably won't be happy with that motherboard either... I'd say try an Asus M2N-E, or for a little less $$ the Biostar TForce.

What exactly is your budget?

Hey thanks for replying.

And thanks for the suggestions.

My budget isn't exactly clear at the moment, but I would say about how much this things costs currently:860 bucks.

Thats everything included..meaning shipping...and since I'm buying from Tiger Direct, I don't have to pay tax over here.

Anyways...since I still have to buy a keyboard, mouse, and a case!... it might cost about 950 bucks all together.

My uncle might help along with it, I have 200 bucks for the extra peripherals like the mouse and case, and my mom will pay the rest.

So..yea...anything that would help me would be great.

By the way, the motherboard you suggested, it doesn't come with the processor... and it would cost me a bunch more if I were to buy them seperatly...What do you mean I won't be happy with the motherboard? Is there a problem with it I should know about?

Anyways, I'm gonna check out that thing in your sig about the 750 dollar gaming rig.

I'll chime in for the TForce. The board is amazing, and overclocking is a breeze on it. There are some many options to choose from, sometimes I don't know what to do with them all.

My overclock with the TForce/3600+/AC64 is currently sitting around 2.6Ghz on stock volts, which I love. My vote goes to the TForce.

Oh yeah...I would also look into that G.Skill RAM too. Love mine.

I noticed that with that mobo combo, you have the 3600+ x2 @ 2.0ghz. Remember that you're going to want the brisbane and not the winsdor.

Well if you're going to spend ~$900, then I'd suggest what you have listed, and the RAM I suggested (great value), and the Asus M2N-E.

Make sure you get a good PSU that can handle the 8800GTS, too (and has a PCI-E 6-pin connector). This Rosewill 500W is a great deal, or this Thermaltake Purepower.

*** EDIT: The X2 3600 "Brisbane" 1.9GHz has twice the L2 Cache and is 65nm (will run faster and cooler), than the X2 3600 "Windsor" 2.0GHz, which is the older 90nm fabrication.

Make SURE you get the Brisbane

Hey Choggs?

Mind looking those things up on TigerDirect for me instead?
Cuz I don't think I'm gonna be buying anything from Newegg, mostly because of the reason that my mom is gonna buy the stuff for me, and that she doesn't want to buy parts from several places.

well actually I looked up the processor myself, but I only found the 4000+, not the 3600+.

Is that ok for overclocking?
