Horrible temps on 7950, whats safe? - Page 3

I was just gonna post a thread about my card and try to get some feedback...

so yesterday i took my heatsink off and applied some as5 to my gpu because me computer was off for like 5 months and my temps on my processor and gpu were too high.. so right now its idling at 61c and and when i was gaming yesterday it hit like 90c...but just like u said no artifacts or anything...i heard this card should idle around like 45c so i dont know..my case has pretty good cooling..whole bunch of fans and i got one right below it on the side of my case exhausting the excess heat..so hopefully i can lower these temps a bit..

any feedbacks appreciated

Get a better cooler. I would keep it under 65C under all times.

And I don't want anyone telling me to get it under like 30C, or otherwise just making up numbers, please post if you KNOW something, or if you can point me to a document having something to do with nvidia that explains this.

(edit) after typing this, I looked at atitool, it was 84C at stock clocks, I paniced an reset...
I have the exact card. do u have the stock heat sink+fan still installed? Here's a little mod. take off that nice looking cover bfg has over the copper heat sink. and remove the fan as well. (this requires taking the hsf off), if u have any small cpu fans lieing around (i used the one off of my stock amd cooler) get some cable ties and strap the fan on to the copper heat sink, preferably at an angle (the lowest point being the direction the stock fan was in. I used to idle at 61C being the lowest i could get it. after doing this i idle as low as 47C and never hit 80C (even overclocked). don't ask what in-case ambiants are but i do know this time of year outside temps range from 27-33C and i don't have Air conditioning. hope this helps.
a bit longwinded aint i.

And I know it sounds really hot, but my 7600 had the same idle temps, 54C or so, this just goes much higher under load. And the heatsink is like a third smaller than the 7600, with a smaller fan as well.
Does your computer have any airflow since it's in a tight spot? If it's blocked in you might as well not have any fans, your comp needs to breathe too
