More Ultra 120 Extreme Questions

Thread Starter
Right now I've got a fairly stable overclock at 3.4Ghz, with 1.5vcore. The idle temps are still around 30C, but the load temps (full Orthos load, small FFT's) of 54C kind of worry me. Is that good for the speed and vCore I'm using, or are these temps too high? Also, is it safe to run my E6420 at those temperatures for 24 hours? I ask that because I've only tested for about a couple of hours on Orthos so far.

Also, keep in mind that before I lapped it, I was getting similar temperatures at 3.1Ghz and 1.46 vCore.

Those temps are fine given your voltage and speed. As another test try this; run the PC as hard as you would in real life circumstances - games, video conversion etc. Keep an eye on the temps. Do they still look ok? My guess is that you will not stress your system to the same degree Orthos does.

Thanks for the advice.

Seems I'm going to be downclocking back to 3.32Ghz anyway, because I just can't get it stable at 3.4Ghz. I get Orthos stable for about 45 minutes until it throws out a rounding error.

How is your RAM? Have you tested its stability?

It's rated for 1066Mhz, 5-5-5-15, and 2.2volts. I've got it running at 850Mhz, 5-5-5-15, and 2.25volts. To be honest, I see no idea how it could be the RAM, but overnight tonight I'll run memtest just to make sure.

If you have it running that slow but still with 2.25V, I don't see how it could be the problem either. It was just a thought.

What is your motherboard (NB?) temperature? You might want to try playing around with the NB voltage and perhaps place a fan onto (or direct one at) its heatsink if temperatures are too high.

You may have already figured this out ... but thought I'd chime in.

Idle of 30C
Load of 54C

That's Gravy!

Your good to go with those temps for 24/7 use if you get it stable.
