NB strap = the ratio your NB is running in compared to your FSB.

Like RAM, the NB has different latency timings for different ranges of speed. These ranges are called 'straps', they correlate to the default FSB that a given CPU uses...

ie- 400mhz, 667mhz, 800mhz, 1066mhz, 1333mhz...and hopefully soon, 1600mhz

Once the NB strap, changes, so does its latency..and just like RAM, increased speed, does not always overcome increased latency. Thats why certain FSB speeds on mobo's may give better or worse results than a faster or even slower FSB/cpu comination.

for budget board go gigabyte p35 ds3r, and for a more high end board get the asus p5k deluxe. that's about all there is to it. there is about a $100 difference between those boards and in my opinion it's not worth the minor performance gain. hope that helps.

I'm so torn between the P5K Deluxe and the P35-DS3R... I hear such good things about both. Is the P5K really worth the extra $$?

Wait for X38 then, or get a cheap P35 board and upgrade to an X38 board when you're ready for SLI.

Between GIGABYTE, ASUS and Abit? I'd say:
1-ASUS
2-GIGABYTE
3-ABIT

In that order.
gigabyte
asus
abit, not familar with that one, but i trust you
