Factory Overclocked worth it?

Thread Starter
I'm in the market for an 8800 Ultra.

I've settled on EVGA due to their step-up program and lifetime warranty.

I'm trying to decide between two cards. One is factory overclocked, the other isn't.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130090

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130092

Will the card that is not overclocked be able to be manually overclocked (by myself) to the same degree as the factory overclocked card? Does the manufacture provide better cooling or something for the overclocked card, which makes it a better overclocker in general?

Just wondering if I should buy the card that isn't overclocked, and then overclock it myself...or if I should buy the factory overclocked card, and then overclock it myself even further. Any suggestions?

An Ultra is just an overclocked GTX. Buy a GTX, OC that to Ultra speeds, save a couple hundred bucks and take your girl out. Win/win buddy.

The Ultra is more than just an oc'ed GTX, the Ultra has the A3 core revision..Much better.

Well I just finished watching 10 or so different benchmarking videos on youtube which shows the Ultra beating out the GTX by a small margin. One test even showed the Ultra having twice the FPS than the GTX.

If the difference was greater than $100, I'd stick with the GTX, but since I can pick up an Ultra for less than $100 more than the GTX, better safe than sorry?

LESS than $100. About an $80 difference.

And if this link is any indication of the performance you can expect, it's an $80 WELL spent.

I really want the Ultra because I dont have the money for sli and if one Ultra will satisfy me for now with all the new games then Im happy. I could always get another later. I would say whichever Ultra is best priced jump on it.
