Sorry... not the Final...

I ran into a couple of issues with cage fitment. I have the solutions, but I am too tired to continue today - 9 hours and my feet hurt from standing for most of that period of time...

...so I present some pictures of drive cages and the test fitting. All is well except the issue stated above. ..oh! and I need some more mounting hardware. I need to go back to HSC to pick it up. Sometimes I think that I short myself intentionally so that I can go back...

Looking good - those black hex screws for the hard drives?

Have you got some sort of cable management plan sorted? I'd imagine you have, your organized

Yes, those hex screwsare for mounting the drives, both HD and optical.

I don't have specific plans for wire management as this case is not fo me.

Sadly, I have run into some issues. Embarrasingly I am the sole architect of my demise.

...but reason will win the day...

I am so loving this case and it gives me so much inspiration and ideas!

How come you are not glueing/bonding the drive mounts? That is what I was planning on doing but the more metal I use the more color I will have in the new design so at this point I am not sure.

Sorry for the ramble there.

... you're not rambling...

Bonding acrylic without there being any air bubbles is very difficult (at least for me). The first 4 cases that I built were bonded, and the seams were covered in a 3M tape to hide the tiny bubbles. With Bronze acrylic it is difficult to see the bubbles without looking very closely, but I wanted to hide them anyway.

There is a way to make a bubbles-less seam, but I have yet to be able to duplicate it on my own... there is a "paintable" bonding agent that I may try later on down the road.

There is a trade-off when it comes to bonding versus hardware when it comes to mounting panels.... hardware requires a lot more prep work and drilling.

I am pleased that you are inspired . The only thing that I would say is "Make it larger".... the diminutive stature (relatively) of this case is the what is causing me problems.

I hope to finish today.

Rep+ for the advice and for all the work you've done

Is it possible to easily bond metal and acrylic without bubbles? If so, you could bond the bottom edge of the acrylic to a strip of metal slightly wider than the edge of the acrylic, and drill two holes down one side and bolt it to the bottom - like what you did, just without the edge going up the side of the acrylic, making it less noticeable...

I think it would be hard not to be inspired by your work

Finished today? WOOT! Cant wait to see it

I am making a trip to Lowes after work so I can see just how rigid acrylic is. Hopefully I will be ordering some tonight so I can get back to work on my case by the end of the week.

I never thought about the air bubbles. I was hoping to glue my case together but will need to experiment with some scrap pieces to see how it looks.
