My first build with all new parts!

Hey guys.

Well this is the story bit, if you want to skip the bullshizzle then just scroll down Well I live in Sydney, Australia. I am from Argentina though and I am temporarily in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I had a 60 GB Video Ipod.... it was my BABY, i had seasons 10 and 11 of South Park, 1-6 of Family Guy, 6 of Scrubs, 1-3 of The Office, and like 6000+ songs! And I got allll this with my beast of a laptop (all completely legally downloaded of course)! I had to do it with like 2 gigs free (give or take, depends if a movie had just come out ) on my laptop.

Anyway, you may your may not know but Argentina isn't the safest place to be in. Anyway, long story short, a bunch of (now i dont want to sound racist or anything, BUT) black peruvian/bolivian/paraguayan/colombian/venezuelan guys rolled me and took my phone (no biggie, it was like a $5 phone) and my video ipod. which to them was christmas in july cause here video ipods sell for 3-4 times the value that of in Sydney (A$D240 [~$210 USD] in Sydney [it was used] and here [Argentina] it would sell for A$D800 [~$700 USD]).

Well, i was so pissed off about the iPod itself, I can buy another one easy, but the CONTENT. I spent countless hours downloading (legally, der), organising, putting album covers and lyrics [not to all songs but my favorites], and converting vids to ipod format. So, from here i said when i get my new ipod, im not gonna do it with this stoneage laptop. So i started making a list of my new computer for when i get back to Sydney. The original intent was to make a computer under A$D1000 (~U$D880). I've gone a little overboard.

NOW, ive made a list of the parts and the costs and well my use for the computer ill be, Uni work (nothing heavy), games every now and again (BF2, call of duty; not hard core but i dont wanna have a lag or any problem, ive had enough of it with my laptops and old ass desktops), some video editing not full on hard core, image editing (not hardcore either), sound (music) editing and recording.

Now besides all this i want sort of like a new toy so i wouldnt mind having parts thats just do the job, but 2GB of RAM and 320 GB so i dont have to even worry about that.

All prices in Australian Dollars. In that list im not tied down to anything, open mind changes. The total price is with all the toys, the basic is well, surprisingly, just the basic stuff so id use old keyboards, old network card, old webcam etc.

Pretty much, i dont know much about graphics cards, havent been following that really. Im looking for maybe cheaper alternitives, i kind of went shopping crazy and listed really powerful parts. And if you suggest a case change, i'd like one thats easy to custom mod if i feel the urge to Trying to eliminate the overkill with cheaper stuff that'll do the work very well no probs and that'll last me a while with the everchanging tech.

Thanks heaps in advance for the help.

Pato.

Maybe you might want to get a Pentium D instead of a Pentium 4? or heck a cheaper CD2 would be better. I just don't know if that will put you way over your budget or something.

I know ima be called a noob for this. A cheaper CD2? CD2 being...?

I dont have an exact budget, i can work for extra cash i just wanna keep it... tamed... altho i want a beast of a machine. But most of the money is going with the graphics card - which is the part i know least about!

EDIT: And i dont mind changing to AMD if it'll work out cheaper and do the stuff i need it to do - keep in mind multiple appz will be open - and from what i've read, intel is better for that, espesh with HT.

Ahh we're all noobs at one time. C2D = Core 2 Duo. Someone correct me but doesn't a E4300 beat a P4 @ 3.4 ghz?

C2D = Core 2 Duo (someone probably beat me to it)

This would be better for the same price:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115014

Or and E4300 would even be better, but the E4400 I linked above is even better that the 4300, and for the same price.
Although you'll have to get a skt LGA775 motherboard...

E4400 is $146 is for me, making it more expensive. But a few dollars doesnt matter. Im worried bout the graphics card, putting a big dent in m budget.

(PS: keep the info coming, thanks guys!)

Edit: the socket lga775 mobo is $66 for me lowering my mobo expense 20 bucks so theres no problem switching the processor so e4400 and the mobo to the ASUS P5VDC-MX. would i do a better job than the pentium 4 3.4ghz?

the mobo on shopbot (i believe its like your newegg?):

PPS: when a C2D is 2.0 ghz, that means 2 x 2.0ghz yes?

Well if you're worried about about the cost of your graphics card, what is the price of a 7600 GT or maybe a 7950 GT?

7950 is a bit more than an x1950 pro. At least it is on Newegg...
