True but if games ever start using Raytracing technology it is my understanding that the CPU will do all the work, but I also understand this to be a long way off.

I personally dont understand the use of PhysX for one reason:

Gameplay...

If you have *Advanced Physics* rendering wherein the crate that just got blown up in front of you is splintering into a thousand pieces and theres mud and dirt flying in your face and you cant see a single thing...

...Then you're dead, because the guy who blew up that crate doesn't have advanced physics hence he doesn't see the special affects that are rendering you useless.

I don't know if I explained that right but thats my opinion on it.

Nechen: This is true to a point. The enhancements can be purely aesthetic, as in they don't affect gameplay. However, the more realistic fragments could still theoretically "do damage" to any player, PhysX or not. It's just that the players not using PhysX wouldn't be able to see the fragments. The hope would be that so many people would have PhysX cards that a game could be made which requires a PPU, but at this point that would be ridiculous.

There is no doubt in my mind that a dedicated PPU is a good thing for video games. What I think they need to do is get them on-board to the highest-end motherboards (which people are spending loads of cash on anyway) and see how they're accepted. That would require Ageia to really blow away the mobo makers, though.

Who knows, maybe Windows 7 will have PPU-driven effects one can dream, right?

the problem i have with physx cards is the feeling i get that in the future the one i got would be to slow to play some game and it would be just another bottleneck on my PC.
