8800 GTS Superclocked SLI??

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

im currently running an e6300 at 3.15 Ghz with 2 gb of ram and a 600w Antec PSU.

My wife gave me for my birthday an EVGA 8800gts Superclocked with the 320MB.

I wanted to get some advice weather i should get a second 8800 and run in SLI mode, what would the performance gains be like??

thanks in advanced.

Unless your res' is above 1680x1050, I see no reason to go SLi, I'd use EVGA's step-up program and get a 8800GTX when you need the extra power

I don't see any point in SLi on the 320MB version. Though there's no diffrence in performance between the 320MB and 640MB when run as a single card, you're definately going to see a hit if you try running two GPU's at 1600x1200 if they each only have 320MB of memory for the textures.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice.

I was definitely thinking about the lack of memory, i wonder if perhaps i should bring in the card for the 640Mb one, then also get a second one.

I forgot to mention that im running a 22" HPw2207 running at 1680x1050.

By the way, what is the minimum PSU wattage i should have for SLI?

thanks!

Just remember...you could always SLI the 8800GTX down the road. I'd step up/ebay the GTS.

As for power...I'd recomend a single 12v rail with at least 42 amps on it for SLI 8800GTS...or GTX's for that matter. or else multi-rail PSU with at least 20 amps each on two or more rails. Your going to want about 16 amps minimum for each card plus you need to power the rest of your system. This is probally a little bit of overkill but you'd be ready if there was a sudden jump to max amperage draw on your video cards. With out the overhead you can get slow downs or crashes
