Creative SB X-FI doesn't detect EAX

Thread Starter
I own Battlefield 2 and played the demo of Medieval 2:Toal War and whenever I want to enable EAX True HD Surround, it states that my hardware doesn't support it? Even when I want to select Creative SB X-FI in the list it automatically defaults to Hardware.

Thanks.

This is most likely a driver problem. Have you got the latest drivers for the X-fi ?

What OS are you running ?
What flavor of X-Fi card are you running? Because the XtremeAudio version doesn't do EAX.

I am running vista and I have the Xtreme Music card.

There is a newer driver on the creative site, but when I read the description for it, it says it doesn't fix the EAX in game sdirect sounds. So I am kinda confused on this.

You have to enable EAX in the X-Fi control panel.

Make sure that box is checked.

well, I bought the direct I/O device from creative and I am running coax to my Z5500 Logitech speakers, so that control panel doesn't even effect my settings if I am not running the 6-channel cords [orange, green, black]. I do have that box checked, but its mainly in-game. Such as Battlefield 2, I read up on this a bit and it says that in Vista EAX doesn't exist but you can use OpenAL to get the same effects. I have open AL installed on my computer, but I don't know if I need to enable it or something. Thanks for you help so far.

BTW: Which card do you have with that 24bit Crystalizer.

Every X-Fi has Crystalizer but mine is the X-Fi platinum. It's the exact same card as the XtremeMusic, but comes with a breakout box for additional inputs/outputs.

I've heard that EAX doesn't work through digital connection but I'm not sure about that. One thing I am sure about is that if you're using a coax or optical cable to connect your z5500's, you aren't getting 5.1 surround in games. The only way to get true surround in games with X-Fi is to use the analogue connections (The 3 seperate minjacks - green orange black).
