Honestly.. that's what I'm thinking.

I'd rather just buy a Brisbane for $65 and try to push it to 3ghz than spend god knows how much for this one for .2-4 higher.

The real factor is we compare the OCing prospect where as we mean nothing to the "Retail" segment... SO GET OVER IT!
Dubble post BTW... merged!

I hope AMD come out with something to crush Intel's CPUs soon. It looks like, from my point of view, that they're still trying to get their breath back after Intel punched them hard in the gut... It's got to be time soon for something groundbreaking, or at least Core2 breaking, from them..? Also, I'd like to see something from ATi that crushes the 8800 series GPUs and does so at a competitive price. We need more competition in these markets...

Highly-Annoyed

Is it just me or have all the amd cpu's pretty much been the same?
Athlon at 2ghz = to opteron at 2ghz = x2(only running one core) at 2ghz?

They really arent taking a step forward, merely raising the roof. (not in a good way)

sure there has been small up dates and changes to get higher clock speeds but its still a 2003 arc,Dont hate on it too much.

I wasn't the one comparing the two. =o)

However, what does age have to do with anything? If the article insinuates that AMD is aiming for the e6850 niche/price, I was just stating they missed the boat awhile back. It's going to be hard to compete in that price range when you have the e6850/q6600's which are by far better chips in the same segment.

Which is all Intel's doing with their tech, too.

Base CPU > More L2 Cache > Higher Clock Speed > More Cores > Die Shrink > More L2 Cache > More Cores > Higher Clock Speed > More Cores > More L2 Cache > More Clock Speed > More Clock Speed > Pwned by something revolutionary.

4 years from now, the best they will have is like 4 E6850s on one chip with increased Cache. It's what Intel always does. All they do is make a tech that beats AMD's current chip by a fair margin, then just slap more cores and ramp up the clock speed. That's why P4 started to lose out towards the end of its life span. The fact that AMD's tech from what, 2002?, is still competing with Intel's chipse, even if they are from 6 months ago, says something.

I think its good that AMD is going to launch this one, but that is all they can get out of there K8 arch.

Would this one come with a new stepping (F4) or is that still F3?

Anyone know when these 6000+ with 89W tdp come into the shops?
Too bad the E6600 is not Intel's Flagship Dual Core; it's the X6800.

And does it beat the X6800? No. Does QuadFX beat a QX6800? No.

What a shame.

Yooo buddy lets calm down there. There's nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to an old architecture. I'm waiting for the day when both amd and intel procs perform the same and have the same price hehe.

I'll wait for phenom'enal, but in the meantime I'm looking forward to seeing some oc's with this chip....if it oc's
