Flash drive dying?

Thread Starter
My flash drive is acting weird - its a 4gb and I got the portableapps suite installed on it with other stuff as well...

It was fine this morning and then suddenly a few minutes ago when i tried to use audacity it wasnt in the folder instead there are other files with no names or extentions and they are like each a gig in size....

Then I did a properties check on everything in the drive and look

Avg as well as spybot doesnt find anything on my pc or on the flash drive

is it time to get a new one?

help?

Try downloading HD Tune and scan for bad sectors.

You might be able to run chkdsk as well... haven't tried on a flash drive.
Once again...

TRy it on another PC where you have full access.

If that fails - then there may be a few recovery apps I can reccomend to get you back your data (if its really valuable).

To answer your question though - its possible.

esp depending on how long you've had it.

Flash drives can only offer X amounts of successfull Read/Writes the manufacturers say..

Who knows - perhaps your partition just got messed up, and a good ol format will sort things out.

Run chkdsk /r /f (on whatever Drive letter that is) from command promt.

Open up a command prompt and then type it in. Don't run chkdsk from the "Run..." box.

I just did a scan by right clicking on the disk and selecting tools.
It found 4661 "recovered file fragments" and all my folders are now files,
But at least those 1gig files are gone... and i did another properties check and its back to normal - 1.4 Gb used and 2.55Gb free

So whats a good recovery program for flash drives...

Or should I just format?

Just be patient..

If when its done, you still cant get back any of your files.

Seeing that formatiing is.. an OPTION in your mind - they prolly arent all that important to you

So, if all else fails.. format.
