Thinking of upgrading my e6300, q6600 or e6320?

Thread Starter
I bought an e6300 a few months ago when I got back into PC gaming. It was an OEM chip and I think it was a bad one becuase I can't overclock it for anything on a Gigabyte s3. I had built a couple of other rigs for friends etc and was able to easily over clock retail e6300 on the same kind of motherboard.

Anyway I am looking at upgrading my CPU now. Is the Q6600 worth it now at $300?

It's still a $200 or so difference after I Ebay my e6300. Or would I be better off buying a retail E6320 or E6340 for a $80ish difference?

Not sure how quads are going to be utilized in upcoming games.

e6300-q6600 is a good upgreade as long as your cooler can keep up. thats the exact same upgrade im doing, but newegg is sold out of q6600's

I am also getting a Q6600 and I am glad that I didn't get one from The egg. I want to wait for the next shipment of Q6600 the G0 stepping one. They are (from what i have been reading) going to be alot better for OCing. Here is a link to the thread i have been reading if you want some info

ditto, but i want the g0 stepping for the fact that it runs at lower temps. plus, it's always nice to know if i were to wc it i could reach higher OC's.

so when Newegg restocks the q6600 those "Should" be GO stepping?

I only plan on hitting 3 ghz as well, but lower temps and more headroom are always nice.

Set a divider on your ram and try overclocking again..If you have G.Skill NQ's they're probably not meant to run 950, someone correct me if I'm wrong

Thanks for the tip, I was able to get 3.0ghz with the same MB/CPU/RAM combo a couple of times before on previous builds, which is why I suspect the cpu.
