Valve. I don't like Steam, but I love Valve and their games. Next I'm gonna have to say Crytek, thanks for Far Cry and of course Crysis (I know it's not out yet, but I think we've seen enough gameplay to know it's going to be awesome).

Bethesda (gotta love the lack of DRM on Oblivion, it's one of the reasons I bought the game )

I'm going to say all the underground no name developers on their way to making it big. They command respect, because they do it for the love of the games. For example, I know the lead software engineer of Iocaine Studios. They have a game called Hyperbol on Steam. Without Steam they would be limited to just the normal store release by Atari. With slumping PC game sales, their hard earned game wouldn't have a chance to become successful at the store.

For example, at Game Stop. They have a small rack of PC games, while the rest of the store is lined up with console games. Most of those games are cheaply produced, and just tossed out to the public to make a few bucks for the publisher. Makes me sick. Games have turned into the movie industry, only for the money.

Steam is a publishing company, but they are probably the best publishing company I know of. They let newbie developers have ~50% royalties, EA gives maybe the standard 10%. Atari the same.

Also, the ability to go onto any computer, login to your account, d/l a game in about an hour, and go at it is phenomenal.

I do wish they would implement their web 2.0 schemes already.

Activision. Just look at COD2, at least they focus on realism a bit more than EA for example.

Valve, Blizzard or Relic.

Valve has always released top quality stuff, even though lately they've taken more onto their plate than they can deal with resulting in lack of support for older mods. Blizzard is awesome for the great game and community they have set up. Flame WoW all you want, but obviously a game that is so addicting to so many people is doing something right. Relic of course for Company of Heroes. They pretty much re-invented the RTS genre and set the bar MUCH higher than any other RTS had done before. Even still more than a year after it has come out, anything new in comparison is still crap. They have also showed awesome community involvement and support, addressing issues with the game promptly and taking into consideration all additions suggested.
