I thought IBM sold the "Retail" segment years ago and only sell servers!

Anyway, more what if ...

As noted earlier, just as solid as the rumor that AMD might buy ATI.

If this actually happens looks like I may have to cross over to the dark side (edit: wait, what is the dark side?). I am still ticked at samsung for the series of unbelievably awful LCD displays that I received from them. I do however love both of my sammy dvd burners... also, they need to stop skimping on the black pigment in their plastic casings, it all looks blue-gray.

Get over it, if Samsung buys it I will be happy! Imagine AMD, but with the resources of Samsung plus it's own resources. Samsung is a smart company and would know how to manage things, it would know how to merge it and manage what they have to pump out massively powerful chips. The extreme resource boost would make Intel sweat Core 2 Quads. It would definitely mean pushing Intel back into that hole it came from if not completely crippling them.

Motorola would ruin AMD.

EVERYONE buys...BOTH AMD AND samsung (or i guess just samsung stock) AMD holders get incentives because they own more value for their shares and visa versa. dividends would be paid and with the extra stock at no charge to the shareholder they may reinvest even more.

with healthy profits from samsung (makes TONS of stuff) the stock will continue a growth trend, even after the initial UPROAR and then selling off of shares to get insane profits, faster than a blue chip and not too good to be true. a true 'growth stock'

it can only be a good thing for the conglomerate, and investors although samsung is the winner in the long term.
If AMD would be bought by Samsung, AMD would gain value, however there is no guarantee that Samsung shareholders would view the purchase as a good thing for the company. As such, there is no reason to believe that Samsung stock would go up. In fact, historically speaking, companies who make acquisitions LOOSE share value.

Companies that have very diversified fields of activity doesn't make them desirable; a savvy investor could easily diversify his portfolio and achieve the same effect, often tailoring the diversification to meet his needs, and even surpassing returns linked to asset allocation.

Finally I'd be curious as to where you got your information regarding the Samsung stock; it isn't quoted in the US...

It will take some time before this is going to happen, if it ever does, and even then AMD would still stick to the current roadmap for their Barcelonas, don't think that the development of that will change much since any big changes would only mean more delaying. Which gives Intel more time for their Penryns and others.

Besides that, the Penryns seem promising, so they would first have to develop something, so just because Samsung buys AMD doesn't necessarily mean intel gets crippled.

(No I'm not a fanboy, my money goes to whatever is best, AMD or Intel, Nvidia or AMD/ATI, it doesn't matter to me)
