Thread Starter
Why are the specs for the 8600 so much better than the 8800 ? I kno the 8800 has more pipelines or whatever but the core clock n the memory are way higher on the 8600. Im thinking of getting rid of my 8800 n getting two 8600s . please fill me in if i am missing somthing
thnx

The 8800 also has more stream processors(I think that's what they're called) With is like pixel pipelines, vertex shaders and something else. the 8800 series has 96 (for the GTS) and 128 for the GTX and IIRC the 8600 has only 24

Two 8600's will not come close to beating your GTS. As they say, clock speed is not everything.

Going to the 8600 would be a downgrade man. The Higher clocks dont compare to more stream processors.
don't forget the memory bandwith is 320 vs 128 with 8600
post #10 of 14
the 8800 is 3x the cost of the 8600 for a reason
