New Build....

Thread Starter
There are two versions of my future rig, the variation is only on CPU, Ram and the Motherboard ..Budget is limited, though on a moderate height.....

1.

CPU: Q6600
Ram: G.Skill HZ DDR2 6400
Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3 P965

2.

CPU: E6750
Ram: ???
Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3-R P35

Now, for which one would you go? Which ram would you recommend me in the second version or could I use the same ram as in the first version?
With this rig I'd like to game but also to fold heavily....

greets Luk

Just make sure you get the new price drop pricing for the quad.

If I took Crucial Ballisitix DDR2 6400 instead of the HZ's, would that lower the overclock of the q6600?

If you want to overclock a Quad, DEFINATELY get a P35 based board! The difference is pretty much shocking.

Thus, although it's more money, my advice is:

Q6600
A P35 based board
G.Skill DDR2 800

CPUMotherboardGraphicsRAM
E8400 @ 3.8 GHz DFI LANPARTY DK X38-T2R eVGA 8400GS 2GB Mushkin DDR2 800 (single stick)
Hard DriveOptical DriveOSMonitor
250GB WD SATA None Windows XP Pro 32-bit HP Pavilion f1703
KeyboardPowerCaseMouse
N/A Corsair HX520 Coolermaster Cavalier N/A
Mouse Pad
N/A

You can't go wrong with the HZs or the Ballistix
post #8 of 9
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 rev 3.3 or P5NE-SLI ( know you're in Europe, just example of prices you can expect)
Q6600
DDR2-800 or 1000mhz depending on your budget. if you can get 1000 or 1066, even if its not D9s for the same price as the HZ, get the 1000/1066.

the G.SKill HZ are known to overclock very high ( 950 to 1100mhz) but again it's not a guarantee... you will probably pay a 30-40 Euro dollars premium to get HZs instead of the ballistix. Again, if you can afford the HZ, i would say get real DDR2-1000 instead (ballistix, Corsair or muskin)

I dont know why the motherboard would make a difference running a quad whether it's P35, 965 or 650i.

WELCOME BACK CHOZART!!!!

Yeah, I would say the first one, except with the P35 Gigabyte board. In fact, that board + Q6600 + 2x1GB G.Skill HZs is the exact setup that I'm looking at getting right now, lol.
