Tuniq Tower + e4300 bad temps?

Thread Starter
Well, it's been a while since I've messed with the overclock on my machine. Currently its at 3.0ghz @ 1.375vcore and the idle temps range from 40-45 C. On load with orthos, the temps seem to float around 60.

I've tried reseating it a few times, and still no luck. Maybe I need to lap the tuniq? Or maybe I'm not applying the as5 right?

Thanks for the help guys

Did you put a thin line of AS5 down the middle of the IHS?

Also, what are your ambient temps?

did you lap your processor?

There have been reports that the actual IHS (internal heatsink) of the chip is not soldered on the E4300 vs. the E6300/6400/6600 and that they used some thermal adhesive to do it, hence the higher temperatures.
I think higher temps have been a problem for many overclocking the E4300.

yep, its a thin line down the middle. also tried a little grain of rice method as well - same temps. neither the processor nor the heatsink is lapped. i dont think i would lap the processor, but lapping the tuniq is definitely a possibility.

my ambient temps are pretty high - upwards of 75 degrees F. my room is the hottest room in the house (besides our garage) and i get the entire afternoon sun.

but i do remember the tuniq's base not looking the best (wasn't really shiny at all!)

seriously, I think I'm really starting to hate my e4300. The heats are terrible, that's after a million reseats, different pastes / grease, and with my Zalman. I really wish I hadn't bought it in the first place (the e4300). Oh, my temps are also 44-45 C idle and 58-59 C load at stock clocks / voltage with the Zalman. I thought of lapping the CPU, but I figured for all the time that'll take, I might as well just wait for my quad...oh, and I'm surprised the Tuniq's not shiny, my Zalman is almost mirror finish, not quite though. I'd never attempt lapping it though, probably make it worse! Well, probably not, but the difference after hours of work would be negligable.
