HD series is not kicking ass. It's dying out to the 8 series.

Case closed on the whole AGP argument.

YEA! Same goes for DX10! If you think it will enhance your visuals, you are a fool!

Vista is a filler OS? And how is that? What logic is behind this statement? The fact that it won't be around long? The fact that it brings more new capabilities and compatibilities to the home user that have never been seen before, and thereby giving it a short life-span? Thats a filler OS? Really?

I thought a filler OS was an OS that turns a gray taskbar into a blue and green taskbar.

Bottom line, a computer can't run faster than it can in Bios + DOS boot. Making all other OS's obsolete?

Getting back to what the thread was originally about, windows XP's lifespan, i'm not at all surprised. W98 I think didn't die until just recently, with all the new DX9 to 10 craze. Game makers have stopped giving it compatibility. But up until late 2006 (latest i know of) games and applications were still largely compatible on 98.

For all you Vista defenders, have you not been privy to the much-increased amount of digital rights management in Vista? That, along with increased communication between your computer and Microsoft for suspicious purposes...

ABSOLUTELY everything goes through a DRM filter in Vista.

well it hasn't stopped me from playing anything yet so i guess i don't have to worry about it then? when would it stop me from playing something? i have used VLC to make backups of my DVDs and it didn't stop me then, because that's legal. so as long as you don't do anything illegal then you don't have to worry.

i'm not sure what your talking about with the whole comunication between the OS and MS, but do you really think there was no difference in communication between the OS and MS in the jump from 98 to XP? using that logic you should still be using 3.1 where it didn't need to contact MS at all (IIRC), or better yet just use linux because i can understand someone saying windows sux compared to linux but i just can't understand people saying vista sux compared to XP.

"...just isn't," meaning "simply isn't a visual enhancement?"

OR

"Is not solely a visual enhancement?"

Gotta make yourself clear

Wanna know how to win?

XP for gaming.

Vista for DX10 gaming (if it ever comes out)

OS X for basic computing.

And you live happily ever after.

Straight up...XP is the majority OS with most of the world because of people like us that take time to make it what it could be...
Fedora,Mandriva,Pc Linux, and Sabayon run right next to it....
But if you want to click and go...GET a MAC!!!!
XP PRO is a beast if you take time...just like Vista could be.
If everyone would stop complaining and join the battle to "stablize" the OS we could stop threads like this...
Gotta get on the grind and fix the registry test the right drivers and components...OCing.
I gave my Vista Ultimate to my little brother...I didn't need ANYTHING that power hungry OS-wise in my crib...I tweaked it and when I did...it crashed...64bit wasn't that bad though...if it had been coded correctly it would be a mainstay for me.
