with

cpu/ram and now hard drives becoming cheaper. all we really need is cheaper electric. and cheaper fiber connections for datacenters. and we can have some crazy powerful and cheap dedicated servers

it might not be much for the average joe to save 10$ a hard driver per year.

but think how many hard drives people like google have?
Yes, bu if these hard drives cost $20-$50 extra... There goes your power savings.

I'm going to buy the computer components that give me the best performance, best savings, or a combination of the two --- nothing else.
(Not necessarily saying these don't perform well or save on costs, though.)

If you want to save the world from the evil polluters, please chain yourself to a tree.

(PS: Interesting read, nonetheless thanks)
