Experiment

Thread Starter
Well since it seems its time to upgrade my athlon xp system Im considering trying to experiment with old parts I have laying around. Well I have an old voodoo 3dfx 5500 graphics card but it wont fit in my newer motherboard which only allows the 1.5v agp cards. I have read that you can run new games on this old ass video card because they have continued driver support to this day ( i dont know for sure why).

This is discussed here

Well I also have a KT7A mobo in my scrap heap as well that will still allow this old video card. Now my issue was that the KT7A I have has an athlon 800mhz cpu in it which isnt going to help much. I had done some more reading and have since discovered that even though the motherboard shouldnt accept the 2.2 gig xp processor in my newer motherboard that some actually tried it anyhow and actually got it to work.

Here is where they discuss it.

So basically my experiment is to run newer games on very old legacy hardware and document how well it works. Keep in mind this isnt to save money or anything because I do plan on building a new system but rather an experiment to see how legacy parts perform with new games since Im bored and I have everything to do it. Im considering running this rig on win 98 also.

Should be interesting to see the advancement in overall system performance over the years. Takes me back to my celeron 733 days.
