Aluminus Owners - Extra Fan Placement

Hey all, just built a c2d gaming rig in the aluminus (black on black) and i must say, the case is gorgeous. Fan-wise, i feel the case is lacking a bit...i am using the stock rear 120mm fan for exhaust with a zalman 9700 nt cpu cooler blowing into it. I also installed an 80mm intake fan on the side panel, and the stock front intake 120mm fan, which i think is virtually useless because of the cage in front of it...

What I did was move the front 120mm fan inside the front of the case so it is blowing towards the video card, which made a 1c difference in idle temps on the card.

My temps could definitley be better than they are, particularly the video card. I was wondering what other aluminus owners have done in terms of extra cooling. Pics would be appreciated if they are available! Thanks.

I have to agree with you. I own that case at the moment as well. I thought the same about the cooling. My CPU was around 42 idle and 47 load. after trying to improve my temps and modding the case a bit I gave up and went out and bought the CM Stacker 830 evo...I dunno...

since I only have one HD I actually cut out part of the HD cage and that lowered the temps about 1-2 degrees with the HD mounted on top most rack.

if you don't want to give up the case you might could find someone to cut a hole for a 120mm fan on the side replacing the 80 and maybe if your good and depending on how large your PSU is there might be room for a 80mm up top.

same here, i have a single hdd, and have it on the topmost rack as well. I have the front 120mm fan inside the case now, IN the hdd cage blowing towards the videocard.

I considered cutting the hdd cage, or drilling out the rivets but that seems like it would weaken the case.

I might try putting the 120mm fan from the front of the case by the side vga vent sucking IN, and angle it a bit so its flowing towards the card, and maybe it will suck that air up...thats my last thought, and i might ditch the case as well and go for the antec 900 dust bin

You know, I pulled the side off of my Aluminus the other day and temps didn't change...

That's with an OCed c2d and an x1900xtx in it.... I'm not too worried.

If you want to start and cut stuff could remove cage and mount Hdd in 5.25 w/cooler and mod a fan set-up in its place???

i already have a fan in the front, side and rear slots. i've also added a 80 mm fan in the vga vent.

i'm considering hooking a booster intake fan to the hdd cage, as well as getting a slot exhaust fan for the video card. if push comes to shove, and i know for sure i won't b selling it, i may put in a top exhaust as well
