this 8600 any good for my rig? - Page 2

Here's a rather amusing piece of misinformation from tom's hardware forums I just found:

We continued to run our whole benchmark line up on the card due to these results and our overall opinion was changed in a heart beat. "
208mhz over stock? Looks like someone doesn't know how perform subtraction... 658mhz-480mhz=178mhz

That was quoted from Tweaktown BTW... yet people are SO trusting in reviews and benchmarks rather than personal experience.

My 8600 hit 700mhz on the stock cooler @77C. With the vf700 it is running 680mhz @53C, I've had it up to 720mhz stable, and with vmod they'll usually go past 800. My mem likes 840, anything higher than 860-870 and it starts to artifact.

i think u should get a 8600gts if ur low on cash or wait till u can get the 8800gts becouse if u get the 7900 the price will keep droping and it will be not as good as a 8600gts in dx 10 game which in the next year will be showing off the real beuty of dx10. my recomandation-(save $130 and get ur self a 8800gts)

Owning a 8600 is kind of frustrating, you go to these forums and people say "hey the 8600 is crap" and you think to yourself why does this guy say this cards crap? it plays everything on max, so you try and tell them but they just don't care.

What..? How..? WHERE??? a 8800 for 130 USD? o.O
in Norway they go for 500-ish..

I can get the 8600 GTand the random 7900 for 150-ish or so.. Three for the price of one 8800

Seems like the 8600 won my heart

Here's a little read for you about how I switched from being an 8600 hater to an 8600 lover...

I dont have 120

I have 27... That's Norwegian money...

Lets see... 27.. divide with six....
Thats 4 dollars?
Maybe i can get another ATI RAGE IIC 4 MB PCI? lmao

Anyway.. IF DX10 proves it's worth, I'll get a 8800 but then and only then.

If what everyone here is saying is true, than would the 8600GTS overclocked/vmodded would be as fast as a x1950xt?
