Urgent! Help / Advice E6550 conflict? - Page 2

For some reason I cannot open the manual I downloaded for your motherboard. Look it up in the manual, there is a feature called "flash menu" that might be of interest. Look in the manual for an option in the BIOS for flashing the BIOS with a CD or flash drive, hopefully you can download the BIOS onto a flash drive or CD and flash the BIOS that way.

Spastik, when you start the new computer, do you see a bios revision on it? You may be running 13, but the 6550 requires 15.

Newest bios = http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/en/down...ET_TYPE=LGA775

Info on flashing = http://www2.abit.com.tw/page/en/download/guide.php

Perfect, looks like Abit makes it nice and easy to flash the BIOS with a floppy.

Good luck Spastik_Monkey!

Just place the .rom file on the usb stick, plug it in, reboot, and then boot from USB device (have to change the boot order in the BIOS).

A fellow west palm-eranian!

You can treat the USB drive in a similar fashion to a floppy, format it and create an MS-Dos startup disk. Add the files from the link I gave you, and you're off to the races.

afzsom is correct, you will need to change the bios so that the system boots from USB Device (may be called "removable" in bios)

OK after much time
(my dad decided to buy a new router and install it tonight aswell :-/)

My computer is up and running with a fresh OS

with respect to flashing the BIOS, it will not let me check the "Create a MS-DOS boot disk" when formatting my USB stick...

i have found this on creating a CD: http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#cdromsi
(see Clean Bootable CD-Rom (for BIOS upgrade) [updated! may 6, 2005])
about 35% down the page

would this work?... or does anyone have any other ways?

thanks

You Can not make a bootable USB stick by using the windows format.you need a program to do this. Google Bootable USB Drive and you should find afew that would do the job for you.
