Popping/Cracking/Stuttering with playback

Thread Starter
Whenever my friend watches a movie, plays music, anything that makes noise there is skipping, popping and stuttering noises coming out. He's using an e6300, and ASUS P5B Vanilla, everything is at stock and he's using onboard sound. I've tried new drivers, driver cleaner, reducing the PCI latency to 32 down from 64, forced UDMA5 for the harddrive, and it still does it. Please help!!!!
That is really weird. Changing the PCI latency from 32 to 64 doesn't sound like a good idea since the audio chip is supposed to be "optimized" for the mobo.

To be honest, Asus boards have more problems with their integrated audio than any other board brand I've seen. The only thing I can think of is to RMA the board... sorry.

Does the rig have a "digital-audio cable" that connects between the mobo and the optical drive? (DVD/CD-ROM)?

Digital goes through the IDE cable. Analogue goes through one of those cables, and its obsolete.

No, I'm talking about a digital audio cable for the optical drives, it's still included with most mobo's these days. But that thing should NOT be used at all.

I was asking if he has that plugged in.

Bump, please guys this is a pretty brutal mess.

My audio was getting screwed up (slowdowns on page loads, during videos, etc.) because my video card's PCI-e link width was running at 1x. You might check into that.
