Trying to get the most out of ~$1.5k budget, would like your help

Hey guys. I'm heading into my second year of college and now that I have some decent money I would like to try and build my own computer. I'll try to be as thorough and responsive as possible to help you guys out. I'll list the computer setup first, then I'll go into detail at the bottom. Hopefully in the end, I can fill in the comp spec profile in my signature with my new rig's spec.

Operating System
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Retail - $199.99
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=604698-1

Processor
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - $279.99
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/Skusearch...iteria=BA23383

Motherboard
EVGA nForce 680i A1 - $189.99 / (after $20 MIR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188013

Memory
G. Skill 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800 Dual Channel Kit - $89.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098

Video Card
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB - $349.99 / (after $30 MIR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071

Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB - $79.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148140

Power Supply
OCZ GameXStream 700W - $109.99 / (after $35 MIR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002

Computer Case
Antec NineHundred - $119.99
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Antec...oductDetail.do

Without rebates and shipping: - $1504.92
With rebates but without shipping: - 1419.92
I guess after rebates come in, it'll end up balancing out for the shipping, and i'll have spent ~$1500 so it works out.

Alright, so with that out of the way, here comes the comments/questions.

Operating System I've decided on retail cus I just rather have the real thing and incase I want to install it on other systems in the future. Plus, if I pay $5 S&H, I can get the 64-bit version sent to me so good times. I know XP is better overall for gaming, but whatever, it's not a big deal to me. I'd rather have the eye candy.

Processor I've been waiting for this price cut since the first price cut, so really anxious to purchase it. Might wait awhile until the G0 stepping starts eclipsing the B3 revision, but either way, my heart is set on this so don't try to convince me otherwise

Motherboard You know, I really didn't know what to get. I was debating the eVGA one above or the MSI P6N Platinum, which would have kept an extra $50 in my pocket. I don't plan on doing monstrous overclocks, and I highly doubt I'll run SLI, so it's kinda weird that I'm opting for the eVGA. They both take the same RAM, and support 1333Mhz FSB, so who knows. I guess it's pretty much interchangable if I chose to save some money. Any suggestions of the two?

Memory It had good reviews on newegg, but I was thinking about paying a little more for another G. Skill kit that had 4-4-3-5 timings instead of 5-5-5-15. Here's the link for the Mem with tighter timings. Link Would it make much of a difference in overclocking?

Video Card I'm kinda set on this too. I can't afford a GTX, and the 320MB version will run out of VRAM on the new monitor my roommate's "giving" me.

Hard Drive All that I can afford. 320GB should be plenty.

Power Supply This or Corsair...can you guys steer me in the right direction? Maybe those of you that have this PSU or a Corsair one can tell me about your experiences with it.

Computer Case Might as well join the pack. Only question would be if either of the power supplies can stretch far enough to reach all the components throughout the case?

Hey guys (and girls), I appreciate your help. I look foward to your suggestions/comments/constructive criticism.

Looks good! Only thing I'd change is get a mobo with an intel chipset as they are better with G0 stepping cpus.

If you're not planning to run on a resolution higher than 1280x1024, then I would get a 320MB (8800GTS) instead of a 640MB.

Looks good I would say change the mobo to a new P35 one, maybe P5K, with the money saved get some better RAM and the corsair HX PSU. And if you got any left over try getting 2x250GB/320GB Western Digital Caviar's AAKS and put em in RAID.

Two questions:

In conjunction with the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 w/ G0 stepping, what performance gains will I see with a P35 motherboard over a nVidia board?

Second, will there be ANY sort of price cuts that you guys know of before the end of the year? (applies to all components listed)

Thanks.

Watch that memory, here is a set that is a bit better.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231114

You said you read newegg reviews? watch it, they are misleading and published by ego maniacs who believe they are g0d, and that the fault always lays with the product.
