8800's and no Signal error...Again

Thread Starter
With the P5N32-E SLI board I have had this error so many times I've lost count.

-You can be using the PC fine, sli is running perfectly.
-Next cold reboot suddenly there is no signal at all going to the monitor.

Now sometimes I fixed this by pulling out one 8800 and reset the jumper on the motherboard but this time even that isnt yeilding results.

Well I don't see the PSU being an issue....
It really comes down to either a bad card or bad mobo....
What else could it be?

did you try connecting to another monitor? or how about checking all the DVI ports with the monitor cable?

Not sure if this will help, but i had inadvertently change my PCIe slot to PCI with in the bios which brought me to a black screen of death.
Not sure what your options are on that board, but make sure there set at PCIe.

I actually had a similar problem for awhile on my 680i, only it wouldn't have a signal if you restarted it. Only if you did a hard shut down, then powered it back on. I did a BIOS update however from P28 to P30 and it MOSTLY fixed the problem. I would certainly try that first if you can. If you said you thoroughly checked the jumpers already - which is what I did after my BIOS update, then that should hopefully take care of it.

But now my drivers stop responding every once in awhile... So... From bad to worse...

I was geting an occasional windows error where after a reboot it opened a MS site and talked about GPU driver errors etc...lol

Yea, try some more drivers (even if you have to roll back to previous ones)

It sounds like there is a conflict or incompatibility some were.

Try using driver cleaner and re-installing drivers. If that doesn't work try some different drivers. If that doesn't work it may be the PCI-E bus

Does it only happen with one PCI-E bus or a certain card or does it happen with any?

This is VERY typical to a driver issue. I doubt its hardware. Do the following when installing new GPU drivers :

Quote:
51.Installing Graphic card driver efficiently!!! When you Update your graphics cards drivers theres ways that you should go about it. Follow these simple steps below.

1.Download and install ''Driver Cleaner'' Here:
http://www.drivercleaner.net/professional.html
2.Uninstall your Current Display drivers such as your ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' drivers.
3.Now run ''Driver cleaner'' and depending on the Drivers you have you will have to select either ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia'' from the drop down menu. Only select the main title of the driver in the drop down such as just ''ATI'' or ''Nvidia''
4.Once you have selected Your driver click on the ''Start'' button and this will now start the driver cleaning process. ( Do this twice to be sure )
5.Now reboot your system and Download the latest Nvidia or ATI and go ahead and install them.

Doing this avoids driver corruption and conflicts so you can now enjoy smooth gameplay.

Shouldnt the drivers not come into play til windows loads?
I mean the bootscreen and bios screen are not run using 158.22 drivers etc are they?

It was doing this with the 158.22 drivers and now the new released drivers are the same.
they were installed after a thorough run with DriverCleanerPro.

I think its the motherboard for some reason.

Its like the motherboard wants to be reset/cleared after everytime you have a graphics card out or change something.

Someone was having a similar problem in the intel CPU's section of the forum, although i can't find it at the moment. Every time he would start his computer in the morning it wouldn't signal. He would power down and reboot and it would work just fine through the day. Come next morning, same problem.
