How To: Build a Server - Page 2

Sure wish these were around about 6 months ago.... anyway Webmin is a MUST. Also I suggest debian instead of xubuntu, theres really no need for a GUI, once you start to learn more about linux you end up doing all the configuring (that you can't do in Webmin) through the terminal anyway. Plus debian has way more packages in their repository.

Nice. I'm running my file server with Windows Home Server RC1 headless. Can't wait till the full release comes out.

I'm still trying to configure RC2. Stupid thing doesn't support 64-bit OS... I have to force install it and won't be able to use file backup.
Once again...

Great articles. I have my second computer running Ubuntu right now, networked to my main box to store my media, but this will definitely extend its capabilities more in line with what I want. Rep +

well this one is set up primarily as a file sever. so its mean to hold back ups or media that can be accessed remotely from inside or outside your personal network.

they can also be set up to host websites, or host online games or basically anything else you want it to do

This is basically the basis for my server. Great site, tons of detail. Also, use this for installing Jinzora2
That will allow you to have a web interface for your server's media and will allow for streaming media.
