Tuniq Tower not cooling properly - Page 5

Hey guys, temps have been getting better and better. Today I'm getting 36 C idle an 44 C load at 3.42GHz with 1.385V VCore and 1.3V FSB. And txtmstrjoe, your point is 100% valid, I'm just concerned that I wasted $50 on a cooler that didn't seem to improve much over my stock HSF. My system is 100% stable though, and I can't ask for much more than that. Now it's time to figure out how to OC my memory... it's "SLI-ready" OCZ PC2-8500 rated at 2.325V, 5-5-5-15-1 timings at 1066 MHz, but it NEVER boots at those settings unless I run my CPU at stock speeds. What I have done for now is set the CPU and Memory to Linked and the FSB/Memory ratio to Auto, which at 1520Mhz FSB gives me 950MHz Memory, at Auto timings of 5-6-6-22-2. Any thoughts from the pros?

Wait, is your memory 1:1 with your fsb or is it already running faster than FSB? And the lower temps over time mean that your thermal paste had to take time to set in break in or whatever...I've never experienced that...mine usually sets right when i put it on lol. Good temps, though! That's what my processor idles and loads at also! Except your processor is more powerful than mine even at the lower speed, lol

If my FSB is 1520MHz and my memory is 950MHz then my ratio is 1:0.63 I believe.

FSB is Quad pumped, your memory is doubled. So:

1520/4 = 380MHz for the FSB
950/2 = 475MHz for the RAM

the ratio is 4:5.

The tuniq tower is a beast to install. I'm glad you got it to work well finally

Oh yeah, forgot about doubled memory speed. So what would be an effective way to get tighter timings or higher memory speed?

for that OCZ..your gonna need extra volts to trim down your timings, or increase your speed.

Try 2.3v, 5-5-5-15-5-8-9-9-9

I recon you just got unlucky with your chip mate. Could be a bad internal connection between the core and the IHS, and if that's the case, there's not a lot you can do. The fact that the stock cooler doesn't help temps really seems to imply this. Glad things are getting better though

I did some testing a while ago with the stock cooler and a Tuniq and there was a world of difference between them (obviously ).

the points go facing down on the tuniq, you're not expelling the air just heating up the case

Since that picture was taken I've reseated the Tuniq to blow air out the case's rear exhaust fan.

CL3P20, I'll try your suggestion on the RAM. Thanks for your input!
