Replacement card for an old Athlon system

Hello everyone:

I am a long time lurker, and first time poster. I have acquired an older system (super deal!) that I would like to get up and running. The system specs (from what I can tell) are as follows:

Soyo Dragon KT333 Ultra Mobo
AMD Athlon 1700+ (OC'd to 1806)
TT Volvano 7 heat sink/fan
1 Gig DDR 333 Ram (2 x 512Mg - brand unknown)
1 Dead Geforce Ti4600 (shame - great card in its time)
SCSI controller card
Seagate 18Gb Cheetah 15000rpm (neat even though small)
SCSI CD-R/W PlexWriter 12/10/32
2 80Gb IDE drives in RAID config
DVD Drive (Brand unknown)
350 Watt power supply
Cooler Master brushed aluminum case

This was obviously a labor of love back in the day. Everything seems to work well minus the GeForce. So, my question is what graphics card would boost this system the best ($100 or less)? From the Soyo site the AGP slot is as follows: One Universal AGP Pro slot (supports 1x/2x/4x modes). I wanted to ask as there is no point getting the best 4x card out there if the rest of the system won't support it. Also, if you have any other recommendations, that would be great. Thanks in advance for any input.

I did check the "Best Graphics Cards per price range thread stickied above. The ATI Radeon X1650Pro AGP and the NVidia GeForce 6800XT sound like good deals, but there are numerous versions: 4x/8x - 256Mg - 512Mg - GDDR2 - GDDR3 - etc. Needless to say I am confused as to which would benefit the above system the best. I look to your wisdom for assistance.

PS - I shop at Newegg.

Any AGP card will work in that slot. The Pro slots will work with AGP cards, but the Pro cards won't work in the vanilla AGP slots. For that system, the 7600GS is probably the best bet. The 6800XT could work, but I'm not sure if the current models can unlock any pipelines.

Thanks for the quick reply, laboitenoire. I found this which comes in right at budget. I wouldn't have thought to go the 7600 route. Thank you so much for the input.

The Duke, thanks for the link. I always start any and all research with Wiki. It is probably my favorite site... next to this one... of course. My concern, however, is more specific to this system in general, not the technical specifications of AGP. Nonetheless, the link is appreciated. Thank you so much.
