Anyone know the 3d mark for ... - Page 4

Which do you think would be the best upgrade first, the video card I linked in the OP, or this watercooling setup. I plan on getting both eventually, but I can only afford them one at a time. With the WC setup I could OC my videocards + CPU and get more umph.
You will get a greater performance increase from the new GPU than you will ever get from improved cooling

and here comes Mr. Red with his two cents

since you already have a CrossFire motherboard, you should at least consider a Radeon HD2900 XT. that way if you feel like you want more muscle under the hood in the future, you can just buy a second card and go CrossFire again. i have a couple of very old CF cards in my computer and i score 10,555 in 3DMark06 with stock video clocks. CyberDruid currently has OCN's top 3DMark06 score with his 2900 XTs in CrossFire (beating out Cogniscenti's 8800 Ultras in SLi).

it's at least something to think about.

I did consider that, however, last time I mentioned I wanted ATI CF compatible cards here I was ridiculed and named a 'fanboi'. Then I was suggested that the 8800 was the best bang for the buck, and ATI wouldn't come close to that card for awhile. *shrug*

i was able to pull 12904 but my comp ran too hot and was unstable after the test and now my current score is 12087 so it is a good card

they're both good cards. i would call it an even race between the 8800 640 and the 2900 XT. it's true that the 2900 was a big disappointment when it first came out, but that was due to release drivers and things have changed a lot in the past month. i know CyberD's overclocking skills have a lot to do with this, but you can't argue with his 17,000+ 3DMark06 score. those cards are no joke.

i would normally say it's just a matter of personal preference and brand loyalty deciding whether you get an 8800 or 2900, but since you already have a CrossFire motherboard, you should really consider your options before jumping ship and going to the green side. that doesn't mean an 8800 would be a bad move.

i said OCN's highest score. world records are useless for normal users. they are set by people using liquid nitrogen on computers that die after a month of hard use. people that like to game want reliable performance - it doesn't matter what volt mods and cryogenics are capable of when you just wanna shoot bad guys at high rez

Very very true!
Browsing through the ATI cards on Tiger the 2900's are 75-150 more than the 8800's. So.... Hmm, it's up in the air for me atm. Once I can afford them a bit better I think I'll dive into the options a bit more. As it is though, pretty much anything is better than my current score. =\\
