I can't hear it over my case fans at idle or gaming. I have all silent case fans (and CPU) except for a Silverstone FM92 (exhaust)
I tested the loudness of the fan at max and it's LOUD!!!! However, I doubt it will ever get this loud. It moved more air than any cooler I've ever experienced...

Did you feel behind the card when it was at %100? I've never felt such a force of air from a PC.....not even a case fan....maybe up there with my Silverstone FM121.

unless you manually control your fan speed, i don't think it will ever go over 30%.

PS we really should have let this thread die a natural death. it started off as an attempt to start a flame war. it worked.

DUUUUUUDE you have to get ATI Tool latest beta and try it out. You will be SHOCKED!
However, it doesn't become audible to me while playing BF2142 or STALKER for hours on end....then again I keep my apartment pretty cool. I haven't overclocked it yet, but I feel really confident considering the quality of the stock air cooler. I have really good temps, and have been wondering about all of this talk about hot R600s....well guess what? THat was from people that didn't own them. I found out that the 8800 Ultra ran hotter at load (2900 had a louder fan though)
If I can find the review I will...

the "loud" many reviews were initially whining over was at 38%, so 100%, yeah .... left me speechless....

Yeah The gtx/ultras have this 100C spot on the back side in the middle of the card. I swear i've seen this thermal image or laser temp read out showing the 100C spot, but can't remember where! It was so easy to bash ati for delaying delaying, but it turns out it was quite a decent card.

the only thing that needs work is the AA/AF (getting fps up to par with nvidia)

it's actually quite silent, IF you let it control the speeds itself. But if u wanna set it to over 50% manually (ATITools) It sounds like a jet engine. Most the time while playing FEAR, it sounds quite loud, but not as loud as my Antec TriCool 120mm fans.

I owned an X2900XT and it is not that loud anyway except most of time my case is making most noise at idel or maybe they're fixed at 2000rpm for custom mod fans. Except you're really pushing the GPU to work then it starts to sound like a JetEngine.
I've played Test Drive Unlimited with it and it is not that loud either. Everything at Max too.
