Need a new soundcard, unless you can fix my current problem...

Thread Starter
On my MSI K8N Neo4-F, I can't get my mic to work. With the latest AC '97 drivers, all I can choose in volume properties is Stereo Mix, so my clanmates can hear what I hear, but not me. Line in doesn't work either.

So I'm looking at a new soundcard. Creative X Fi Xtreme Audio is in my price range, at $50. I could order online and pick it up in the store today. Quick help, +rep.

Well, right now I am using onboard.

The XtremeGamer is $33 more than the Audio, and I don't have anything great when it comes to speakers. I'd rather put that $30 toward some Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 speakersa.

if you are using inexpensive speakers than no sound card will sound much better than integrated, you might as well get the audio or another cheap card.

Don't get the XTremeAudio, trust me. It's a really bad card. Go for an Audigy 2 if you can find one. If not, here are some others you should be able to afford.

AuzenTech X-Tension: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829156004
Creative Audigy SE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102012
M-Audio Revolution: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829121122

Any of those would be much better than the Xtreme Audio.

Does that include a front bay controller?

I might just grab a SoundBlaster then. I know BB has those and I would like to get it today..

Are you a hardcore audiophile or do you just want to get the MIC working..this would influence your purchase choice.

Both. I'm not hardcore but I do enjoy sound. Let's just say I could live with onboard sound, but an increase in quality and quantity would be welcome.

Also, if I were to go for the Xtreme Gamer for $100, I would just get a BlueGears Enspirer. I'm going to call up Best Buy and make sure they have an Audigy or Xtreme Audio though. If I have to wait a week, I can get the money for the Xtreme Gamer.

It'll take some load of the CPU too.
