Alcohol will do fine, just put a drop of as5 on the middle of the IHS. Not to much or it will spread over the edges of the IHS.
About the size of a pea will do.

I always use high-purity rubbing alcohol on a coffee filter, and rub the alcohol on the CPU and heatsink like that. Also, I use a rice-sized grain of thermal compound on it. I think Arctic Silver says you should apply a very small amount to the heatsink and rub it in using a clean cloth, ie a coffee filter, without any rubbing alcohol or cleaning solution.

Removing the paste, there's a link posted above, you can get your answer in there.

On the dual core CPUs, you would want to use the line method over the dot and spread method.

Look at this picture, you see the golden arrow on the bottom left of the picture? If you are looking at your computer, it'll be facing bottom right. So in the picture, you'll apply paste from to bottom, but! if you are looking at your own computer, you'll have to apply from left to right considering your CPU position on the motherboard over the picture.

You only need a line in the middle as much as a grain of rice.

EDIT: Ah! RonindeBeatrice found the right picture. but that's for Quads. You'll have apply from left to right.

I'd wipe it away with a coffee filter just to make sure, but it should dry up of its own accord in a couple of minutes.
