Ain't nothin' wrong with the IDE drive, anyway. Keep your Sata free for HDD's. =DDD That's what I do.

About to order some more HDD's at that. mmmmm storage space is tasty.

Haha. Honestly, what do you need that much space for?
Also--I'm assuming you drive an Audi, which? I think that's my next car

=P I went out Monday and shot second unit for a movie trailer in Topanga Canyon.

I came back with 24 Gigs of footage to store. Imagine doing that once or twice a week.

Nah, I don't drive an Audi lol. I want one... but it's the name of a character in a script I wrote back in High School.

for a p180 case? sheez, i don't think anything over 20" would be nessecary, you're using the ide for your HDD right?

edit: for optical drive, 24" will be over kill i think, i can measure when i get home my p180 case, but i'm almost postive one 18" will do you fine for optical drive. i would say take a risk on the sata dvd-reader and if you like it, than buy a DVD burner, unless as soon as you get your system built you're gonna be burning DVDs'

you can't really go wrong with the sata, cleaner cables and you can manage it in your device's
i did not notice a DRAMATIC increase of atapi, but there was one.

Not anymore. Waiting for new nVidia card. I don't play a lot of games, so I have no REAL need for it? But, if I'm gonna get something better might as well wait.

Just realized, what are you cooling your CPU with? Stock?

No, I don't have RAID. And my drive is Lite-On. It's also super quiet, to boot.

Well, I'm undecided on the best cooling solution for $50 or under (I'm not planning on pushing the CPU to the limit). Then again, as long as I'm building this amazing CPU, might as well, right?

Thanks for getting those links. But apparently the ASUS P5K Deluxe has the IDE spot on the bottom of the board as oppose to the lower right side.

BTW--How do you like your P180?!

You make me really want to switch to SATA, but I can't find any materials that say it yields faster performance... Plus, knowing my luck, I'll be that unlucky person who can't boot up.

Still, for the p180 the cable should be MORE than long enough even if the port is on the bottom. I connected a 24 inch 40 pin form my X-fi card to the top I/O port and the cable was WELL overkill.

The P180, oh my, it's a tried and true case. Quiet case, excellent air flow. Can't mod much, but its an excellent case for that price. I got rid of mine cause i wanted to mod my case more, and i needed massive room for contained dual radiators!

edit: your gfx card is a perfect for now, by the time the new cards come out, you will be able to step-up with the evga program. they will not switch series on you (9xxx) but even if they did, you can still upgrade to the 9xxx series! by the time games made/able to support dx10 come out, better nvidia cards will be out and about with better drivers, so no worries! don't by anthing below an 8800 gts 320 right now though
